PDF AI Text Checker

Upload a PDF (up to 8MB) to check whether its text looks AI-generated.

⚠️ This tool is different from our other tools: it uses a server. Your PDF is uploaded, its text and metadata are extracted and classified, and the file is immediately discarded once you get your result. It is never stored, logged, or shared with any third party beyond the classification request itself.
Please read before you rely on this: AI-text detectors — this one included — are not reliable enough to prove that a specific document was or wasn't AI-generated. They can be wrong in both directions, and are known to more often mislabel writing from non-native English speakers and other distinctive human writing styles as "AI-generated." Don't use this result as the sole basis for an accusation, a grade, or any other consequential decision about someone.

Up to 8MB. Scanned/image-only PDFs won't have enough extractable text to check - see below.

Overall assessment

Document text

Based on writing style and structure

Document metadata

Based on the software that created this file

This is a probabilistic estimate from one model, not a fact. Short texts, heavily-edited human writing, and non-native English writing can all be misjudged. The overall score weighs the text signal higher than metadata (text is the stronger clue) - use it as one weak signal among others, never as proof on its own.

How this works

Your complete PDF is taken into account for this decision, Answer can be somewhere from "clearly human-written" to "clearly AI-generated." details are shown separately since they can point in different directions - a human-written document exported through an unusual pipeline, or an AI-drafted document later cleaned up by hand, are both real cases.

if PDF is not readable text to say anything meaningful - a scanned page saved as an image, for example - you may want to run pdf with OCR PDF first.

Because this requires a server-side model call rather than something that can run in your browser, this tool uses our backend rather than being fully client-side like most of this site. Your PDF is processed and discarded immediately - see the notice above for exactly what that means.

Questions

How does it check a PDF for AI-written text?

It extracts the text of the PDF and scores how much the writing looks machine-generated. It also reads the file's metadata, such as the software that created it, and reports the two separately.

How accurate is an AI text detector?

Not accurate enough to prove anything. Detectors can be wrong in both directions and more often mislabel writing by non-native English speakers. Treat the result as one weak signal.

Does it work on scanned PDFs?

No. A scan is a picture of a page and has too little real text to check. Run it through OCR PDF first.

Is there a size limit?

Yes, 8 MB. For long documents only the first part of the text is checked.

Is my PDF stored?

No. This tool uses a server: the PDF is uploaded, checked and discarded as soon as you get the result. It is not stored or logged.
