OCR: Extract Text from Scanned PDFs

Works on scanned pages (images) and picks up existing selectable text automatically where it's already present — no need to know which pages are which.

🔒 Your files stay on your device The PDF and every extracted word are processed locally in your browser. Nothing is uploaded to a server.

Starting…

The PDF is generated fresh from the text above (including any edits you make) - it's a new, plain text document, not the original scanned pages with text overlaid.

Only English is used by default here. OCR quality depends on scan resolution — a clearer/higher-DPI scan gives noticeably better results.

How it works

Pages that already contain real text are read directly, which is fast and exact. Scanned pages are pictures, so the text on them is recognized instead; this takes a few seconds per page and can misread a blurry scan.

Everything happens in this browser tab. Your PDF is never uploaded.

Questions

How do I copy text from a scanned PDF?

Select the PDF and press Extract Text. Then copy the text, or download it as a text file or a new PDF.

Which languages are supported?

English.

Why is some text wrong?

Accuracy depends on the scan. A clear, straight, high-resolution scan gives much better results than a blurry photo.

Is my PDF uploaded?

No. Pages are read inside your browser tab and are never sent to a server.
